ALONE TOGETHER

In response to the pandemic, Jennifer Haupt rallied 90 authors to contribute their work to an inquiry into our times. This diverse collection of essays, poems, and interviews conducted by Haupt is a lifeline for negotiating how to connect and thrive during times of isolation and instability, as well as a historical perspective that will remain relevant for years to come. All profits will be donated to The Book Industry Charitable Foundation.

REVIEWS:

“For anyone who feels powerless right now, these writings offer comfort and even escape into the abstract, allowing for meditation on deeper issues….A testament to the power of story in times of hardship and crisis.” -- Library Journal

“Many of the essays find some consolation in the feelings of grace and emotions of tenderness… In a hopeful interview with Haupt, [Luis Alberto] Urrea describes those suffering through isolation as ‘yearning for our better selves, desperately dreaming of a kinder world in the days to come.’ The collection is diverse in age, race, and ethnicity, and gender perspective is a focus of many of the pieces, which offer informed speculation on the many ways that things will never be the same.” — Kirkus Review (Full review here.)

“Anyone who has weathered the past few months will find something in here that speaks to them.” — Publishers Weekly (Full review here.)

“ALONE TOGETHER connects writers, readers, and booksellers in a wonderfully imaginative way. It’s a really good book for a really good cause.” — James Patterson, Bestselling author

“These are powerful messages of unity and hope in a time of isolation and despair. ALONE TOGETHER is a very important work that has emerged from a very dark time.” —  Kevin O’Brien, NYT Bestselling Author of The Bad Sister and The Betrayed Wife

"...the best kind of connection—deep, honest, steely, and humane..." — Gish Jen, Bestselling author of The Resisters

“Jennifer Haupt’s timely and moving anthology also benefits the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, making it a project that is noble in both word and deed.” — Ann Patchett, Bestselling author and bookseller
